Sweep Ernst and Young out of our hospitals on Saturday 28th November

On Saturday 28th November, Calderdale and Kirklees 999 Call for the NHS are taking to the street in Halifax, to protest against global management consultancy company EY (aka Ernst and Young) calling the shots over the future of Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

999 Call for the NHS activists and supporters are going to sweep EY out of our hospitals between 11am-1pm, on Southgate, Halifax outside Wilkinsons. Or in the arcade side entrance to borough market if it’s raining.

Members of the public will be able to find out to help stop the hijack of the NHS by global management consultancy companies and their health insurance corporate cronies, and to support the NHS Reinstatement Bill. American corporate foxes to ransack NHS henhouse in £3bn-£5bn privatisation

A huge privatisation is underway that will put US health insurance company United Health in a position to bid for contracts to provide NHS clinical services, at the same time as it advises clinical commissioning groups on what clinical services to plan and buy.

NHS England – increasingly looking like a Trojan Horse for United Health (the previous employer of the NHS England CEO, Simon Stevens) – is pushing one of the biggest NHS privatisations to date, worth £3bn-£5bn. Continue reading →

Huddersfield GP support services office to close by May 2016 as result of privatisation

West Yorkshire Primary Care Support Service centres in Huddersfield, York (2 of them) and Doncaster are due to be closed next year when they’re privatised. This information has only become public through a document leaked to the press.

In a contract worth around £400m for up to ten years, the privatisation quango NHS England is handing corporate giant Capita the Primary Care Support Service (PCSS), that is based in 29 centres across England.

As it takes over the PCSS, Capita plans to close all but 3 PCSS centres and fire nearly 90% of PCSS staff.

The PCSS at Blue Beck House in York is due to close by end March 2016, and the PCSS at Broad Lea House in Huddersfield and the 2 PCSS centres in York and Doncaster are due to close by the end of May 2016. Continue reading →

Unacceptable conflicts of interest in Calderdale GP Commissioners’ bid for role in commissioning primary care services

Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group is among the 87% of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) that have bid for a role in commissioning primary care.

This is despite the fact that in May this year, GPs at the Local Medical Committees’ Conference in York voted against co-commissioning of primary care by CCGs, on the grounds that this would create “unacceptable” conflicts of interest.

CCGs are made up of local GPs, and primary care covers GP practices as well as dental practices, community pharmacies and high street optometrists. Continue reading →

No opportunity to speak truth to power at NHS England’s Citizen Participation event, say Calderdale 38 Degrees supporters

Calderdale 38 Degrees supporters who attended NHS England’s “Citizen Participation” meeting  in York on Tuesday 17th June found the event full of contradictions.

Roger O’Doherty and Morrilly Gudenuff (not the delegate’s real name!) were among 38 Degrees supporters calling on NHS England to come clean about undisclosed meetings with private health care lobbyists and the role of Big Pharma in drafting its plans.

They handed NHS England a petition, signed by over 140,000 people, demanding that NHS England declares all its meetings with lobbyists, as well as any conflicts of interest. Continue reading →

New NHS head Simon Stevens is key player in private healthcare network

Simon Stevens, the new NHS England head, is one of the key folk who’s been responsible for driving private healthcare companies’ capture of UK governments and the NHS.

Simon Stevens was formerly president of US/global private healthcare company United Health. Before that, he was involved in the private health care advocacy think tank Kings Fund, and was central to New Labour‘s NHS privatising reforms.

NHS England knows nothing of Care UK contracts for Todmorden and Halifax walk in health centres

NHS England says it does not have information about the Care UK contracts for Todmorden and Halifax Walk In Health Centres.

When I put in a Freedom of Information request to Calderdale CCG last July, they passed much of it on to NHS England. This was because Calderdale CCG had inherited the Care UK contracts from the Calderdale Primary Care Trust but, unaccountably, didn’t have information about them and thought that NHS England would know.

NHS England has now replied that they too know nothing about the Care UK Contracts for the Tod and Halifax Walk in Health Centres, and has suggested that I contact the legacy team at the Department of Health.

On behalf of NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), West and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Commissioning Support Unit has now replied to my Freedom of Information request about the saga with Care UK over the contract to run the two privatised GP walk-in centres.
