IncredibleEdible Mytholm has put deer protectors around the trees in a small orchard on Mytholm Meadows playing field that we planted last year with Incredible Farm and St James Primary School gardening club. We’d noticed that deer had been nibbling the trees and stripping off the bark.

Hebden Royd Town Council has unanimously passed Cllr Dave Young’s motion that the Council should refuse Sainsbury’s request for a meeting to discuss their proposal to build a Sainsbury’s Local on the old fire station site on Valley Road, and should instead invite Sainsbury’s to call a public meeting to discuss their proposals.

Hebden Royd Town Council meeting at 7.30pm on 8th January will hear of Sainsbury’s request to meet the Council, in order to discuss their plans to build a Sainsbury’s Local supermarket on the site of the former fire station on Valley Road.
The Town Council will consider this request for a meeting as part of Agenda Item 4 – Communications from the Mayor and Town Clerk. A number of Hebden Bridge people have also written to the Town Clerk about Sainsbury’s plan, and the Council will also hear their emails and letters.

At the meeting on 16th December, the management committee discussed a number of ideas about what to do, now that the Calderdale Planning Committee has approved the planning application for a supermarket and hotel on the Mytholm Works/Brown’s Field site.

After an hour-long discussion, four out of seven Calderdale Planning Committee members voted in favour of the Setbray/Belmont Homes planning application for a supermarket and hotel on the Mytholm Works site.
The Chair, Cllr Daniel Sutherland, who was among those who did not vote to approve the planning application, then declared the planning application was approved.
After the decision, Cllr Young, who objected to the planning application, said:
“This could have a devastating impact on the independent shops in Hebden Bridge and on the Coop.”
Backed up by three hundred people who signed Incredible Edible Mytholm’s petition to Calderdale Planning Committee, Incredible Edible Mytholm’s chairperson, Margaret Boyle, will speak against the Setbray/Belmont Homes supermarket and hotel planning application when Calderdale Planning Committee meets at 6pm on 3rd December in Halifax Town Hall.

Today in St George’s Square, people showed a lively interest in signing Incredible Edible Mytholm’s petition asking Calderdale Planning Committee to refuse the supermarket and hotel planning application for the Mytholm Works site on King Street, Hebden Bridge.
To date, just over 300 people have signed the petition.

Since Incredible Edible Mytholm created its online Petition yesterday, people have been emailing questions and comments to the IEM Secretary.

On Tuesday 3rd December, Incredible Edible Mytholm’s Chair and Secretary will present Calderdale Planning Committee with a petition signed by 302 people, calling on the Committee to reject the Setbray/Belmont Homes planning application for a supermarket and hotel on the Mytholm Works/Brown’s Field site on King Street, Hebden Bridge.
The Chair, Margaret Boyle, will also speak against the planning application.
If the Planning Committee decide on 3rd December to approve the supermarket planning application, IncredibleEdible Mytholm’s plans for a community-owned sustainable food business, eco attraction and eco hotel on the site – as envisioned in the header to this post – will almost certainly be dashed.
