Report on North Halifax public drop in session on future of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS

Janet Bertola attended the  public “engagement” drop in session about the future of Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS and social care at New Beginnings, North Halifax on 10th June.  This is Janet’s report:

I got there at about 2.30pm and by the open door there was a large 2 metre free-standing poster advertising the event. The hall was laid out in areas with posters and staff from the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the Hospitals Trust and Locala available to talk.  It would have been better if the staff wore name tags so you could see who you were talking to and what organisation they represented, although the Locala staff member was clearly identifiable since she wore a uniform. Bristol Protect Our NHS slams Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group for misleading the public about outcome of legal case

Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) was today exposed for trying to hide the fact that it had admitted acting unlawfully and had agreed to take steps to correct its unlawful actions.  Instead of being open about its failings, the CCG attempted to mislead the public about the outcome of a court action brought against it by local patients by suggesting that the action had been “dropped”. Staff “better prepared” at poorly attended Hanson Lane drop in on the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS

Two members of the public – Anna Best and Calderdale 38 Degrees NHS member Dr Chris Day – report here on the 9th June Hanson Lane drop in session about the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS.

Anna said that the representatives at the Hanson Lane drop-in event gave out leaflets and information, listened to her concerns and wrote down a number of her questions and suggestions. She thought they may have better prepared than those at previous drop ins, judging on previous reports. Continue reading

Report of “a fixed mindset whereby no other options are open to consideration” at drop-in on NHS plans

This report on the Mytholmroyd public drop-in session about the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS is by Rosemary Hedges, Secretary of Calderdale 38 Degrees NHS. (For readers who don’t know about the proposed NHS “right care” shake up, there is some background info about the drop in here.) Continue reading

Slaithwaite resident says ‘future of A&Es’ drop in session was like wrestling with fog

“RIGHT CARE, RIGHT TIME, RIGHT PLACE”
REPORT ON SLAITHWAITE CONSULTATION 30.5.2014

Martin Jones, a Slaithwaite resident, reports on his experience of the Slaithwaite public drop in session yesterday (30th May) about the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals and community healthcare. He notes that the information on display at the drop in didn’t mention proposals for closing/downgrading one or both A&Es – proposals that have met with widespread public opposition. Member of public loses will to live after attending Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS drop in

A member of the public who attended the “Right Care” drop in session at Salendine Nook
YMCA earlier this week was disappointed in its vagueness and its poor advertising, which
meant hardly anyone attended.

The drop ins are supposed to allow the public to take part in decision making about the
future of Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals and community healthcare. This is an
urgent matter, because according to a Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group (GHCCG) Freedom of Information response, the new out-of-hospital community healthcare “model” is intended to be in place by April 2015. Continue reading

Questions for Calderdale & Huddersfield hospitals and community care consultation drop ins

Thanks to everyone who came up with ideas for questions they’d like the Clinical Commissioning Groups to answer at their forthcoming drop in sessions. The first drop in is today, May 28th, at Salendine Nook YMCA. The questions are on the leaflet, below, page 2.

If you’re going to a drop in and would like to print off the leaflet and take it with you, or even take extra copies to hand out to other people there, you are very welcome, that’s what they’re for. Continue reading

Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS shake up questionnaire – have you filled it in?

This is my response to Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s questionnaire about the future of hospital and community health and social care services in Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield. Have you completed yours? You can download the questionnaire here . You’ll find it’s on page 12 of that pdf leaflet “The future of hospital and community services – Get involved and have your say.” Because it’s a pdf download, if you want to word process your reply, rather than write it by hand, you’ll need to copy the .pdf questionnaire form and save it as a .doc file or whatever word processing programme you use. If you’d like to put your reply on Plain Speaker, please send it in or post it to 19 Unity Street, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8HQ.

My response is here:

I accuse Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group of misleading the public. Imo they are presenting government plans to covertly privatise the NHS as if they are local doctors’ and nurses’ ideas for improving patient care and saving money for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS. There is no reliable evidence that their proposals improve patient care and people’s health or that they cut costs.
