Petition Calderdale Planning Committee to refuse supermarket retail impact assessment and planning application
Please consider signing Incredible Edible Mytholm’s petition (Scroll down the page a bit to find it.) The petition calls on Calderdale Planning Committee to refuse a developer’s retail impact assessment statement, about the effects on the town of a hypothetical supermarket, and the related supermarket and hotel planning application.
The retail impact assessment statement makes it clear that no supermarket is associated with the planning application or is interested in locating on the site on King St, Hebden Bridge. So this is a speculative planning application aimed at whacking up the sale price of the site. It’s not aimed at creating a handy alternative to the Coop for Hebden’s discontented shoppers.
Good vibes at Growing Futures Field Day
Growing Futures Field Day went with a swing, thanks to over 180 members of the public and local politicians who came to enjoy some food for thought – as well as wild foraged soup and pancakes cooked up in the courtyard by Flood Angels, and a variety of yummy bread from the Bakehouse.
Members of the public welcomed Incredible Edible Mytholm’s ideas for Growing Futures -a community-owned, fair, sustainable food business on the Mytholm Works site. A number of Hebden Royd and Calderdale Councillors also came along to find out more, and expressed interest and support.

Growing Futures – inspired by Bradford’s Newlands Community Association Business Park
One of the interesting things about working on IncredibleEdible Mytholm’s Growing Futures project is the way that people keep coming up with useful ideas.
The latest example is a suggestion that IncredibleEdible Mytholm look at what Tony Holditch and the Newlands Community Association have done at the Inspire Business Park in Bradford.

Most town centre businesses who responded to a Hebden Bridge Retailers’ survey take a positive view of IncredibleEdible Mytholm’s proposed Growing Futures sustainable, community-owned food business on the Mytholm Works site. Comments from town centre businesses include, “Looks great,” “ A fantastic idea, especially the hotel that will attract more visitors,” “…a visitor centre would help focus the interest..,” “Excellent stuff, much preferable to the supermarket/hotel proposal.” “Brilliant!” Continue reading
