Calderdale Council cross party group to oversee Brexit action plan

Calderdale Council has prepared an action plan to deal with changes resulting from the EU referendum vote to leave the EU. It will be overseen by a cross-party EU Action Plan group that will meet in public, although the Council hasn’t yet finalised membership or a timetable for meetings.

If members of the public witness or experience any racist or xenophobic backlash, either call the police on 101 (for non-emergencies) or report it to Calderdale Council’s community worker Kirsten.Fussing@calderdale.gov.uk

Impact on “community cohesion”

If there is any local backlash against EU citizens, migrants or ethnic minorities – what Calderdale Council calls “an impact on community cohesion” – the Council said it’s important that it deals swiftly with any signs of tension and that it:

“may need to support non-UK citizens who may be directly affected by an EU exit.”

Changes to Calderdale waste and recycling services from 1st August 2016

Calderdale Council has awarded a new waste and recycling collection contract, with an estimated value of between £110,000,000 and £130,000,000, to a global company, SUEZ, that puts profits above the human right to water and other vital utilities, leading to massive protests in Argentina and Bolivia.

Hospital cuts consultation drop in sessions in July with Joint Health Scrutiny Committee

Calderdale and Kirklees Councils’ Joint Health Scrutiny Committee is examining the Clinical Commissioning Groups’ proposals to cut hospital services (including the whole of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary acute and emergency services) and replace them with “Care Closer to Home”.

They want to hear from the public and have arranged two “drop-in” sessions so that people can discuss the proposals and share their views with Councillors, one to one. Continue reading

On Monday 20th June 2016, Calderdale 38 Degrees NHS Campaign Group and Huddersfield Keep Our NHS Public handed in  petitions signed by 15,339 people to Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups, calling on the CCGs to keep both Huddersfield and Halifax A&Es open, 24/7.
