Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group meeting nods Strategic Outline Case through to its next stage

On 13th March, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group Governing Body gave the nod to proceed to the next stage of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust’s Strategic Outline Case (SOC). This is about Transforming Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield’s NHS and social care services.

The SOC describes in outline what the future of the NHS and social care might look like in Calderdale and Huddersfield. It’s based on the Strategic Review’s proposals that came out towards the end of February.

Closing the A&E where admissions are rising? Where’s the sense in that?

I’ve just come across the interesting fact that while Calderdale A&E admissions are higher than they were in 2008/9, admissions to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary A&E haven’t gone up over the same period.

So Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust’s  “preferred option” of closing Halifax A&E means closing the A&E where there are growing numbers of people who need emergency treatment. Where’s the logic in that? Continue reading →

NCAT Report on future of Calderdale & Huddersfield A&E: wave goodbye to our NHS

The National Clinical Advisory Team Report on the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield A&E, commissioned by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, is now in the public domain after months of secrecy.

This is what its guff about “delivering more care outside the hospital“, “community-focussed care“, “putting the patient first” and “transformation” really means: yesterday £1,222,000,000.00 of our NHS was offered up to Private Health by
NHS Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit,

“Commissioners are seeking genuine, transformational and sustainable service change that recognises the primacy of the patient in the service model…” (links to the contract advertisements are at the end of this article)

West and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Commissioning Support Unit will be following hard on their heels if we let the CHFT Strategic Review (which is based on the NCAT Report) go through. Continue reading →

#Calderdale #NHS bureaucrat says public have no access to key A&E report

The public does not have access to the National Clinical Advisory Team (NCAT) Report on the Calderdale A&E reorganisation. This report contains proposals about the future of Calderdale and Huddersfield A&E departments.

Dr Walsh, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s Chief Officer, told NHS Calderdale 38 Degrees that Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust (CHFT) has commissioned the NCAT report, and the report is internal to the CHFT.

It will be late spring before Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group decides what it wants to do about the report’s proposals and then reveals this in a public consultation.

Strong links between deprivation, violence and A&E attendance in Calderdale

Recent data on A&E attendance show that deprivation and mental ill health are both strongly linked to high levels of A&E attendance.

So-called “austerity” economic policies have cut jobs and wages and introduced welfare reforms with adverse effects that have given rise to “grave concerns” among many South West Yorkshire Partnership Trust Foundation service users, carers and staff.

Data in Focus on Accident & Emergency, 3rd Dec 2013, by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (hscic) show that in each of the last 5 years, A&E attendance by people living in the most deprived 10% of areas is double the rate of those living in the least deprived 10%

Calderdale GPs wait for Foundation Trust to tell them of A&E plans

  • Pressures on Calderdale A&E and the  likely merger of Halifax and Huddersfield A&Es into one department in Huddersfield are the result of systemic problems caused by the removal of the NHS from democratic control and its current backdoor transformation into a privatised health care market.
  • This is the view of groups who are calling for the NHS to remain a public service, in the face of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 reforms to the NHS.
  • Calderdale NHS 38 Degrees are anxious that Calderdale residents’ lives and health will be put in danger if Calderdale A&E is closed or downgraded.

National crisis in A&E is being felt in Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals

At its meeting on Thursday 14th November, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s Governing Body faced questions from the public about A&E.

Presenting his Report, the Chief Officer, Dr Matt Walsh, said that the national crisis in Accident and Emergency (A&E) is being felt in the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT).
