Save Calderdale Royal Hospital campaign is clear that Mr Allott’s and Mr Whittaker’s recent claims about the Calderdale NHS shake-up are misleading and ill-informed.
Katherine Horner, a Save Calderdale Royal Hospital campaigner, said:
“Its quite simple, we carry on with the Save Calderdale Royal Hospital campaign because the threat to our A&E hasn’t gone away.”
The dismemberment of our NHS proceeds apace.
On 7th January, the private community health care company Locala announced that Calderdale Council has awarded them two new NHS contracts in Calderdale.
The Council has taken away these contracts from our hospitals Trust, which is in the middle of serious financial problems. Continue reading
Some Calder Valley constituents – who are worried about proposed new fracking legislation in the Infrastructure Bill which MPs are to vote on in the House of Commons this week – have asked Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker to tell the government to release the full version of the Defra report on Shale Gas Rural Economy Impacts.
The version that has been published (PDF) has over 60 redactions, and Green MP Caroline Lucas has accused ConDem ministers of having “something to hide” over fracking. Continue reading

Thanks to Pete Lazenby and John Mooney for asking me to talk about the Save Calderdale Royal Hospital campaign at today’s Hebden Bridge Trades Club benefit for the Morning Star.
Phillip Allott, Tory Parliamentary Candidate for Halifax, has sent Halifax voters a letter containing the unfounded claim that Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group has rejected the hospitals Trust proposal to turn one of our hospitals into a small planned care hospital with a Minor Injuries Unit and the other into a specialised acute hospital with an A&E Department.
Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s Governing Body Chair, Dr Alan Brook, told the 30th October 2014 Calderdale Health and Wellbeing Board that the CCG had decided not to consult the public about proposals in the hospital Trust’s Outline Business Case – because “it needs more work”.
But the CCG has at no time said that this means it has rejected the Trust’s proposals. Continue reading

Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals Trust Director of Informatics, John Rayner, recently announced he’s resigning and will leave his job at the end of January 2015.
He is jumping ship to work for the Healthcare Informatics & Management Systems Society (HIMSS)-UK, a subsidiary of the US-based company HIMSS.
HIMSS got its UK foothold by buying the Harrogate events management company Citadel in 2012.
It now appears to be well in with NHS England, as HIMSS is a co-sponsor with NHS England of UK e-Health Week 2015, a two day event at the National Hall in Olympia on March 3rd and 4th. Continue reading

As a result of the Coalition government’s bonfire of regulations, earlier this year Councils lost an important right to specify higher energy efficiency standards.
For a government committed to a localising agenda, this is odd.
The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee criticised this proposal last November, but the Coalition Government turned a deaf ear and went ahead with it.
This coincided with the Coalition government’s decision to wind down the Code for Sustainable Homes. Continue reading
Calderdale and Huddersfield hospital Trust’s Outline Business Case (OBC) is supposed to incorporate changes suggested by public, patients and stakeholders, during the Trust’s “engagement” process on the Strategic Outline Case.
But the OBC airbrushes the public’s and Calderdale Council’s rejection of their earlier Strategic Outline Case (SOC).
The Trust has been selective about what it includes from “engagement” with the public and patients. Continue reading
