Member of public loses will to live after attending Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS drop in

A member of the public who attended the “Right Care” drop in session at Salendine Nook
YMCA earlier this week was disappointed in its vagueness and its poor advertising, which
meant hardly anyone attended.

The drop ins are supposed to allow the public to take part in decision making about the
future of Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals and community healthcare. This is an
urgent matter, because according to a Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group (GHCCG) Freedom of Information response, the new out-of-hospital community healthcare “model” is intended to be in place by April 2015. Continue reading →

Calderdale Councillors unite in call for NHS Trust to drop A&E downgrade proposals and listen to People’s Panel

The public seats were full at a Special Council meeting on 16th April, where Councillors unanimously passed a motion calling on Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Locala and the South West Yorkshire Foundation Partnership Trust to withdraw their Strategic Review/Strategic Outline Case for the future of health and social care in Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield.

The Strategic Review proposals include the preferred option of downgrading Calderdale Royal Hospital A&E and turning the hospital into a small planned care clinic. Continue reading →

The Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield People’s Commission of Inquiry (hereinafter CHPCI ) shall examine the decision of CHFT,Locala and SWYFPT to issue a Strategic Review and Strategic Outline Case for the transformation of NHS and social care, that includes reducing and downgrading hospital services and replacing them with a cost-cutting system for integrated health and social care in the community that is not evidence based, and the context for this: the fundamental changes being made to the NHS over the last 40 years. Conservative Parliamentary Candidate encourages all party support for Council motion on Calderdale A&E

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Halifax Philip Allot is encouraging all Calderdale Councillors to support a motion that calls on Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), Locala and South West Yorkshire Foundation Partnership Trust to:

  • withdraw the proposals set out in their Strategic Outline Case for the future of the NHS and social care in Calderdale and Huddersfield, and in particular the ‘preferred option’
  • enable the two local authorities and the two Clinical Commissioning Groups to lead an open consultation about future health and social care provision in Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield, through establishing a health and care commission to take evidence, lead consultation and produce proposals regarding future health and social care provision across the Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield health and social care “economy”
  • requests Cabinet to take all necessary steps to secure this outcome.

Perfect Financial Incompetence in Kirklees community health centres

5 primary care/community health centres in Kirklees are a PFI project. Kirklees Primary Care Trust closed the financial deal for the PFI project in 2004.

The 2012 Treasury PFI spreadsheet shows the PFI contract is for 30 years and Semperian is the equity holder. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is NK Facilities Ltd. Total capital costs are listed as £25m. The total unitary charge (which covers the mortgage repayment and service charges for operating and maintaining the health centres) is £89.6m over the contract duration. Continue reading →

Cut to Calderdale’s A&E is only part of proposed massive change to hospitals and community health and social care services

More information has become available about the proposal to cut the Calderdale Royal Hospital A&E department and centralise A&E sevices in Huddersfield.

Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group has clarified that this is only part of a proposal for a whole new model of providing hospital and community services for people across Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield.

It involves a massive shakeup of the way the whole NHS operates in our areas.
