On Saturday 29th October, Calderdale Freedom from Torture and Together We Grow are hosting a Welcome Festival at the Birchcliffe Centre in Hebden Bridge, for Calder Valley to welcome refugees. The Festival is from 1.30pm to 4pm.
The organisers would be very grateful for sponsorship towards covering transport costs for asylum seekers and refugees to come to this event, and providing them with a free lunch and refreshments. Around 80 refugees and asylum seekers are expected, from Halifax, Rochdale, Leeds and Sheffield.

All members of the public are welcome and the line up includes some amazing performers:
A famous Syrian singer, Moheddin Aljabi – now a refugee living in the South of England – sings in Arabic, French and English.
His daughter, Enas Aljabi, will also be singing.
The Songo Drummers from Sheffield, the Harmony Choir from Leeds and
Dave Nelson on keyboard, with Charlie Carr singing will also be performing.

For the children there will be face painting and arts & crafts activities.
There will be stalls with information about refugee issues.
Tea, coffee, juices and cakes will be sold. Feel free to bring a cake for the refreshment table.
Car parking spaces are limited at the Birchcliffe Centre. We would like these spaces to be for cars with disabled passengers. We encourage you to walk or take the bus to the Birchcliffe Centre, on Birchcliffe Road – info here.
Local buses run to and from the train station – the stop is directly outside the Birchcliffe Centre. Take the Dodd Naze Circular and ask the driver to drop you at the Birchcliffe Centre. It’ll take about 5 minutes.
This event is jointly organised by Calderdale Freedom From Torture and Together We Grow, which aims to promote the social and emotional wellbeing of asylum seekers and refugees in our area and wants them to feel welcome in our community.

From Tuesday 10am on 18th October, Local Giving/Together We grow. will double any donation of up to £10. This “match funding” campaign closes when the match fund runs out or at 5pm on Thursday the 17th November 2016 (whichever comes first).
During the campaign, one off donations made to local charities via Localgiving will be matched by up to £10; as will Direct Debits by up to £10 a month for the first 3 months.
Together We Grow has the chance to secure up to £2,500 of match funding: £1,000 from one time donations and £1,500 from Direct Debits.
This year funding from the Office for Civil Society and a private philanthropist has brought the overall match fund for the campaign to £345,000.
